Tara Hankins Bio

Hello everyone, I wanted to introduce myself and tell you a couple things about myself along the way.

I’m Tara Hankins and I’m 41 years old and I am one of the two owners of Unique Hair Boutique. I have been doing hair since 2006.

I am a mother of two children that are about about to be 21 and 18 in July. Along my way I have traveled a lot. I have visited and lived in a lot of beautiful places. One including San Diego. While living in San Diego that is where I began my journey into the hair industry.

I attended Marinello School of Beauty in San Diego and did half of my schooling there and then came home to finish the rest at Paul Mitchell Great Lakes. Within days of me graduating I was invited to join the team as a cosmetology instructor. Which I continued to do so until 2012. While I absolutely adored and loved teaching amazing future professionals, I knew my other love was being in the salon and working with the public. For 5 years I did both salon and teaching and sadly it came to a head that I had to choose one or the other so I left teaching behind. I knew I made the right choice but I miss teaching and miss my students dearly. After working in a few salons I was blessed with an opportunity to finally have my own. And Unique Hair Boutique was born! It’s the love of my life! I couldn’t be happier with how everything has fallen into place for me and my career!

I feel I have learned a lot along the way but my passion is in coloring. My speciality is doing dimensional coloring techniques. Giving the illusion of light and dark colors blended gracefully but to have a contrast. Bright colors, depth and uniqueness that will catch any eye. But I do love doing any color technique that is desired.

My love for my clients is indescribable and I wouldn’t change a thing that got me here to where I am today. I am very lucky and grateful for it all. I am also grateful for my business partner and friend Alyssa Drake to live this dream with me. I got into this industry to try to make people feel good about themselves and if I have reached at least one persons life for the good I am satisfied with that! This world needs more love and compassion, and hairdressers and their hands are one way to give that to the world.
